There is a lakeside country club located in Fish Hoek Valley. In the 1930’s this was an estate that was being liquidated. The estate was bought and became Covelly Country Club. A cottage was converted in 1932. It is beautifully located along Silvermine Mountain. The golf course was impressively placed on the slopes of the mountains. Today the course is no longer in that position, instead it is on the gradient.
It took a hundred or more members to put the lakeside country club together. Each member had contributed to the plans of the lakeside country club. The original lease was for ten pounds every month for nine years, with the possibility of an extended nine years. It later became Westlake. The original course only had nine holes. Later there was a great desire to make it eight teen holes. By 1936 Westlake was fully equipped with eight teen holes. By 1989 there were even more alterations made. There were even extensions added on the lakeside country club. In 2000 there were additional alterations and extensions applied to the Westlake. So much work has been done to modernize and to duplicate parts of Westlake. There are many positive comments about the outcome of the country club.
